WINTER 2026

A stock photo of two albatross flying across a landscape of mountains and a lake

Wednesday, April 1
12:00 p.m.

Join Willa Coultley, MS, PhDc, for a focused look at how paleontologists identify and interpret rare bird fossils. Centered on a bird skull discovered near Newport, Oregon, this talk will explore how researchers determined the specimen represents a previously unknown species of modern albatross extending the known history of the group by millions of years. Willa will discuss the discovery process, the methods used to identify the fossil, and what this find reveals about bird evolution and past life along the Oregon coast.
